I'm feeling your title just based on the sentence I read describing the story plot. I will have to down load the book, and share my thoughts. Your short synopsis is also the reason for my comments. Even though it may be fiction, I'm sure it's a little bit both. non-fiction/fiction. In order to be creative we do use reality to help us out. Happy writings and good luck!
