I developed an interest in writing at an early age and by age eleven I decided that my main goal in life was to be a published novelist. My earliest writings were childrens' short stories and poems. For a year or two I attempted to make my own newsletter called "The Pet Gazette". I also became an enthusiastic writer of fan fiction before I even knew what fan fiction was, and once the internet introduced to me that world, I had my own fan fiction website for a short time.

Starting at age 12, I began entering writing contests. At age 13 I won first place in a local contest for my short story "Black Rose". The following year, in the same contest, I won second place for "The Disappearing Boy." The year after that, I won first place for "Disconnected From the Dancehall" and second place for "What's Best For Him."

TIn 2011, I had my story "The Art of Using Someone" published in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Just For Teenagers.

My short story "What She Doesn't Know" would have been published in What If? Magazine in 2011 had the magazine not gone out of print.
